For the third year in a row, Safe Kids Worldwide, with support from FedEx, will launch a nationwide search to find America’s Favorite Crossing Guard. The contest will build on the momentum of International Walk to School Day and celebrate the role of crossing guards in keeping our children safe.
Last year, more than 60,000 votes were submitted for America's Favorite Crossing Guard from across the country.. This year’s contest should be just as competitive, so be sure to nominate and vote for your favorite crossing guard - each vote counts!
The winner of this year's "America's Favorite Crossing Guard" contest will receive an individual prize worth up to $500 and this year, as an added bonus, the school he or she represents will receive $10,000 and Safe Kids will host a pep rally at the winning school.
The second-place winner's school will receive $7,500, and the third-place winner's school will receive $5,000. So, make sure to nominate your favorite crossing guard today!
"Crossing guards are the tireless heroes of student pedestrian safety and deserve our thanks and recognition," says Torine Creppy, president of Safe Kids Worldwide. "They are out rain or shine, even during the cold winter mornings, to protect our kids from distracted drivers and the other risky behaviors that make school zones unsafe for our children." Crossing guards, like our school bus drivers, provide an essential service to kids as pedestrian safety issues remain a major concern with more than 40 children being struck by vehicles every day.
How to get started:
Teachers, parents, caregivers, and the general public can nominate their crossing guard to be America's Favorite Crossing Guard through an online form on the Safe Kids website. Entries will be accepted through November 14. On November 19, Safe Kids will post the names of the nominees on its website; online voting will begin on that day and last through November 30. When the voting period is over, the profiles of the top five nominees will be sent to a panel of judges who will select one winner.

Entry Period: The Contest begins at 8:00 am ET on October 10, 2018 and ends at 11:59 pm ET on November 14, 2018 (the “Entry Period”). Entries submitted before or after the Entry Period will not be eligible. Safe Kids’ computer is the official time-keeping device for the Contest.
How to Enter: Visit www.safekids.org/crossingguard and complete the entry form to nominate an individual, including yourself, who is currently authorized to work as a crossing guard by a school, school system or government entity. You may nominate an unlimited number of crossing guards, but the use of an agency or any automated system to enter is strictly prohibited, and Sponsors, in their sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify any entries received through such methods. Sponsors reserve the right to reject any additional entries or entries that do not comply with these Official Rules. A nominee cannot win a prize unless you and he/she comply with all requirements in these Official Rules. Incomplete entries will be void.
Selection Process: After the close of the Entry Period, all valid entries will be posted on www.safekids.org/crossingguard for judging. Judging will be conducted first through an online public voting process (“Public Voting”) and then by a panel of at least four (4) judges, which will include a member of Safe Kids Worldwide’s board of directors, Safe Kids Worldwide founder, Dr. Eichelberger, a senior executive at FedEx and Safe Kids Worldwide’s President, Torine Creppy, or such other judges to be selected by the Sponsors at their sole discretion (the “Panel”). The nominees will be judged on: (i) The quality of the nomination statement (e.g., quality of answers to questions); (ii) The crossing guard safety record; (iii) The types and amounts of proactive initiatives the nominee has taken as a crossing guard;
Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit organization working to help families and communities keep kids safe from injuries. Most people are surprised to learn preventable injuries are the #1 killer of kids in the United States. Throughout the world, almost one million children die of an injury each year, and almost every one of these tragedies is preventable.
