Why #WeAchieveTogether: Teachers Chelsea Farrior and Temeka Lewis

January 16, 2019 - Employee Excellence

Chelsea Farrior is a 2nd grade math and science teacher, and Temeka Lewis is a 2nd grade English language arts teacher at Booker T. Washington Elementary School.

“I love working at an Achievement School because I love empowering the students,” said Chelsea Farrior. “And I am fortunate enough to have a great teammate who I’ve been working with since last year.”

Her teaching partner, Temeka Lewis, agrees, noting how the students are positively impacted when they have additional support at school.

“It helps them because they know they have two teachers they can depend on,” said Lewis. “We both have the same mindset and mentality that we’re here for the students. It seems like we’re almost one.”

Farrior and Lewis believe the secret to success is building a relationship with students that begins with trust. Witnessing the growth that happens from the beginning of the year to the end is a spectacular thing.

“What I love about working at an Achievement School is just giving back to our students and seeing them have their great ‘Ah-ha!’ moments and pushing them to their greatest potential,” said Lewis.

“I have high expectations for my students, and yes, we are an Achievement School, but that doesn’t mean they can’t do it,” said Farrior. “When you have those high expectations, students will rise.”

“I love our students, our support staff and our administration community. It’s a great place to be and great place to work,” said Lewis.

“Watching the students grow every day, even though they have obstacles that can get in their way, it’s really something that can humble you as a person and makes you look at life in a different way,” said Farrior. “It’s a reminder that there are things out there bigger than you, because helping these children can really take them a long way. All they need is that one person to be that spark in their life to really make a difference.”
