Meghan Price is a chemistry and physical science teacher at Chamberlain High School.
I love what I do. It’s so exciting to watch those light bulb moments, where my students just get it and are super excited to learn. When they get excited, it makes me so happy.
The technology we have in our classroom is very helpful and has been a great bonus. The other schools I’ve worked at didn’t have anything like the technology we have here. We have a new QOMO board, which is a nice big touch screen television, and I have a SimplicitySlate that allows me to write on the board from anywhere in the room. This means that I can support all my students in the ways that they need, and I don’t have to worry about anyone missing what I’m trying to do.
I am very real with my students. They know that I can make mistakes, and the most important thing is that we come back from our mistakes, learn from them and can improve together as a class.
Some of my students have hard lives and it took a little while for them to open up with me. But now that they’re comfortable with me, I have students come in before and after school to talk with me about their lives and what’s going on. The fact that I can be there for them and help them through other parts of their lives is how I feel that I make the biggest impact.
I love chemistry and I love what I do, and it’s a great feeling when my students grab on to that enthusiasm in the classroom.
It’s exciting to see them start to realize their own potential and get excited to learn. I love pushing myself and pushing my students, getting us all to a place where we’re excited to be here and want to learn. That’s why I do what I do, for those moments.
