Students at Lithia Springs Elementary earn free books from new vending machine

May 14, 2019 - Student Success

It’s not your typical vending machine!

Instead of chips and drinks, the one at Lithia Springs Elementary School has books!

The Bookworm vending machine officially opened last month, stocked with hundreds of brand new books.

However, you can’t use cash to get a book.

Students earn tokens from teachers as rewards, then use them to get a book they can keep.

The machine was paid for by generous donations from the PTA and an anonymous donor.

It offers a selection of up to 20 different book titles, and can hold between 200 and 300 books.

Principal Kevin Martin is hoping to give away 250 free books by the end of the year.

It’s only been a few weeks, but the vending machine has already been put to good use.

Students are excited to earn tokens and claim their prize—a new book!

It also gets them excited to read and collect different books.

If you would like to donate a book to add to the vending machine, you can visit the school's Amazon wish list:
