Why #WeAchieveTogether: Teacher Paige Gonzalez

July 03, 2019 - Employee Excellence

Paige Gonzalez is a first grade teacher at Palm River Elementary School.

I love being here, and I love being a teacher. I love everything about being at an Achievement School. The kids put a smile on my face every single day.

It’s awesome being at my home site for summer classes. I get to meet children from other Achievement Schools and help to instill that same growth mindset with them that I try to instill with my own kids during the year. That’s my goal, for my students to know that they can do it.

My students know better than to say, “I can’t” or “I don’t know how.” Instead, they use different strategies to try and find the answer. It not only makes them want to come to school and work hard, it makes me want to come to school and show them that they can do whatever they set their mind to.

I want my students to be as excited to be here as I am. I want them to feel comfortable in the classroom, so building that relationship with them and reminding them how much I believe in them helps to set the tone for the rest of the school year.

We have a lot of resources at Achievement Schools, like reading and math coaches, and almost anything you need to help access the curriculum and make your plans. These resources ensure the students are successful and help set that base for you.

Academic gains are extremely important, but being there for your students and showing them that you are a constant in their life—that you show up every day and you’re excited to be there—helps with the emotional support students need as well. When you keep the positive attitude, you see gains across the board.

There’s nothing better than seeing that lightbulb go off in your students’ heads and knowing that they got it. Their reaction is priceless and it is so worth it. I love being here, and I don’t see myself ever leaving. It’s what makes me happy.
