Brewster Technical College recently participated in the Passport to Success Seminar for Adults with Disabilites in the Macy's Merchandise Handler Training Program, which was held at the Children’s Board. The intent of the workshop was to strengthen student skills, boost their self-confidence, and improve their job interviewing skills, while having a good time and celebrating successes from throughout the year. Students AND staff had a great time, and left the seminar with loads of new tips and skills for their future career endeavors!
The Macy's Merchandise Handler Training Program program is staffed by HCPS Marketing instructors and is based at four Macy's stores throughout the county. The Merchandise Handler Training Program is a business-based program for adults with special needs. Training locations are at Macy's in Brandon, Citrus Town Centre, University, and Westshore Plaza. The focus of this program is to teach job skills at actual employment sites. Students are given the opportunity to be trained in areas of merchandise handling, shipping, and receiving. Hillsborough County Public Schools, in partnership with Macy's Stores, sponsor this non-paid training. Students attend class at their assigned store with their teacher, and a Macy's trainer works directly with the students to familarize them with the entire array of retail positions in the Macy's stores.
