The state has directed all school districts in Florida to keep schools closed through the end of the school year due to concerns over the coronavirus. More information is available on our Coronavirus Information page.
Thousands showed up for STEMtastic at the Florida Aquarium on Tuesday evening for this year’s STEM-centric event featuring our K-12th grade STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs.
It was an informative evening for parents who spent quality time talking to school principals and teachers about their impressive STEM programs—but it was also a fun-filled event with families exploring exhibits throughout the aquarium and students engaging in STEM activities available at each school’s table.
“Family turnout to this event was impressive. I spoke all night with parents and students who asked great questions—wanting to make informed decisions with so many academic school choices.” said Principal Barbara Fillhart, from Monroe Middle School in South Tampa.
Students from Tampa Heights Elementary Magnet showed off their leadership skills and shared pictures of what their new campus will look like. Stewart Middle Magnet School students boasted about their partnership with NASA and their impressive Aerospace, Engineering, Environmental, Robotics and Computer/Video Design electives & clubs. Jefferson High School highlighted the experience students get in its Maritime and Marine Environmental Academy—and they proudly displayed their own remotely-operated underwater robot.
This event allowed parents to research schools in our district and sign up for school tours, so they are prepared and informed when it comes time to apply for School Choice. The first Choice window opens October 25th.
“We are proud of what happens at each of these schools every day and we are thrilled to have over 30 STEM-centric Magnet and Career & Technical School Choice Options for our families,” said Larry Plank, STEM Director for Hillsborough County Public Schools.
Thank you to the following #STEMtastic schools for participating in this year’s showcase:
