District celebrates Telecommunications Appreciation Week

April 25, 2016 - Employee Excellence

Every day, 24 hours a day, week after week, year in and year out, the HCPS Telecommunications Technicians “answer the call” from anywhere and everywhere in the district.  Today, there are 15 Telecommunications Technicians working for Hillsborough County, and they rotate yearly through three different shifts; 6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., and a midnight shift that begins at 10:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 a.m.  There have been many changes in the district when it comes to telecommunication efforts, and one of those changes included combining the former Transportation dispatchers with the Security group. This year will be the first time that the district will celebrate Telecommunications Appreciation Week, with a proclamation read into the official record of the School Board, and an open house and tours of the Communications Center which is housed in the Instructional Services Center (ISC).

Two Telecommunications Technicians have recently been honored with “Recommendations for Award” citations. Senior Communications Technician Kevin Faulkner earned his recognition by being nominated by his supervisor, Sergeant Adrian Neptune, the Day Patrol and Communication Center Supervisor.  Sgt. Neptune wrote that, “Since Kevin started with the department, he has taken the opportunity to learn all aspects of the Communications Center.  He has trained multiple new dispatchers and he is always eager to learn and share his knowledge.  Kevin’s excellent work ethic and high standards are qualities that supervisors have come to expect, and that make him a “go-to employee.”  In turn, Kevin recommended Lissette Anaya for her award.  As her supervisor, he stated that, “Lisette Anaya has allowed us to change her schedule with just a few days’ notice to accommodate the shortage in the Comm. Center.  She is always ready and willing to work, keeping a positive outlook throughout all the changes and the merger with Transportation.  She is always offering to help out when it’s busy and offers to stay late to help out.”
