Bill Currie Ford and Caspers Company recently presented checks to the Brandon and North Tampa Alternative Schools to assist with Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) efforts. Through the efforts of Project Promise to connect with multiple businesses in the Tampa community, both schools have received checks from local partners to support ongoing PBIS initiatives including school stores. School supplies, treats, clothing and other needs for each store will be supplemented by these donations. In addition to Bill Currie and Caspers, Pilka and Associates, P.A., Lowe’s Home Improvement Store, and Nova Southeastern University have also generously donated items for school stores, staff resources, and landscaping materials to improve campuses. The Thunderbird Resort on Madeira Beach even donated a weekend at their resort as part of the Teacher Appreciation efforts at North Tampa Alternative School. In addition, a Community Foundation grant was just awarded to the North Tampa Alternative School that will provide funding toward Focus Field Trips and curriculum support.
Paul Burke, the Business and Community Resource Specialist for Project Promise is an enthusiastic supporter of connecting and engaging business and community partners. “We have to, as a school district, throw our 'metaphoric arms' around the needs of our schools and students by engaging our business and community partners.” Dr. Sherrell Wilson, Supervisor of Academic Support and Federal Programs, acknowledges the importance of partnering with our local businesses. Project PROMISE (Programs Offering Mentoring, Intervention Services, and Educational support) is the district’s program for at-risk youth, formerly known as the Neglected and Delinquent Program. "We have been innovative in our approach - through monetary donations and in-kind support, we aim to support activities that fall beyond financial allowances of our existing federal Title I grant," said Dr. Wilson
