Five students were recognized during the May School Board Recognition meeting for having perfect attendance from kindergarten through 12th grade.
The students are:
Emilie Dunn, Newsome High School
Ryan Ingraham, Sickles High School
Jacob Lorentzen, Durant High School
Logan Phillips, Pepin Academy
Michael Stone, King High School
Suncoast Credit Union presented these students with $500.00 to cover college expenses and Toyota of Tampa Bay presented each of the students with a new HP laptop to memorialize and reward their achievements.
Research has shown that school attendance, one of the key performance indicators, is the foundation of student achievement. Seventeen years ago, in an effort to encourage school attendance, Deputy Superintendent Beth Shields initiated an annual attendance program to recognize students who have maintained perfect attendance from kindergarten through the 12th grade.
In addition, Toyota of Tampa Bay will host a special event on June 4, called A Perfect Car for Perfect Attendance to honor seniors with at least one year of perfect attendance in high school. Qualifying seniors will receive one entry ticket for each year of perfect attendance for their well-deserved accomplishment. Toyota of Tampa Bay will be giving away a new Yaris to one lucky senior. Over 1,800 eligible seniors have been invited to this event.
"We are excited to partner with Hillsborough County Public Schools and provide a deserving high school senior with a new vehicle for such an important accomplishment," commented Brett Morgan, Owner Morgan Group, general manager of Toyota of Tampa Bay. "Students with perfect attendance demonstrate a high degree of commitment to both the teacher and the class by being there every single day. Perfect attendance also teaches the importance of seeing something through to the end. Arriving to school each day on time is a skill that easily translates to the workforce and leading a responsible adult life."
Our partners are the catalyst that enable us to provide outstanding rewards to our students which equips them for life after graduation.
