Learn more about the upcoming education referendum
Education has a direct impact on everyone in our community. When we invest in our schools and our students, our entire community profits. It results in higher incomes, better jobs, rising property values and a healthy economy.
Right now, because of inadequate state funding, our students face a future in aging, crowded schools and our community faces a $2 billion challenge. The half-penny sales tax education referendum on the November 6 ballot would generate approximately $131 million per year for ten years that would be spent on specific projects to improve our public schools.
Performance Audit of Hillsborough County Public Schools
The School Board voted on August 24, 2018 to place a referendum for a half-cent sales tax for capital needs of public schools on the November 6, 2018 ballot.
Florida Statutes require that a performance audit of the programs addressed by the referendum be conducted by the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) and the results of that audit be posted on the District's website 60 days prior to the Election.
Pursuant to the requirements of section 212.055(10), Florida Statutes, we have received and are posting for your review the Performance Audit for Hillsborough County Public Schools .
The Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) selected McConnell & Jones LLP to conduct a performance audit of the programs associated with the surtax resolution adopted by the Hillsborough County School Board on August 24, 2018.
An important update about health and safety in our schools
Just as our district has become a statewide leader in security and a statewide leader in academics, we are committed to becoming a statewide leader in student safety. The safety and risk management office, under our operations department is responsible for environmental inspections, assessments, transportation and the overall management of safety in the district. This includes testing for lead and radon in our schools.
