

September 11th Remembrance Events

Tampa, Fla. – (September 10, 2018) – Students, teachers, and staff at many Hillsborough County Public Schools will hold events this week to remember those who lost their lives or were injured during the terrorist attacks on September 11 and honor the brave heroes from that day.
Below are just a couple of the events scheduled:
- Tuesday, September 11, 8:46 a.m. – Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy, 3915 21st Avenue, Tampa – Students have spent the past few weeks creating individual red, white, and blue stars for each of the victims of the September 11th attack. Throughout the day, students will go out to the school’s front lawn during their social studies class to place the stars in the grass. The first group of students will go out right after a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. A second group will go out around 9:30 a.m. The school’s lawn will be full around 2:30 p.m. when the last of the stars are placed.
- Tuesday, September 11, 8 a.m. – Ribbons to Remember, Nelson Elementary School, 5413 Durant Rd., Dover – The students and teachers will~gather in the school courtyard to remember and honor the~heroes~of September 11. The school will also recognize the contributions of the military families at their school and those serving in law enforcement and as firefighters. ~Four different colored ribbons (red, white, blue and yellow) will be placed on four trees on campus to remember the groups of people affected that day. The Durant High School ROTC~color guard~will do the presentation of the colors. ~Some parents serving in the military,~law enforcement and as fire fighters will be joined by their children to place the ribbons on the trees.
- Tuesday, September 11, 8:46 a.m. – Moment of Silence and Random Acts of Kindness, Newsome High School, 16550 FishHawk Blvd., Lithia – It is Red, White and Blue Day at the school as students and staff recognize those lives lost on September 11 with a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. They will encourage students and the entire faculty to do random acts of kindness throughout the day. They will be able to share the random acts of kindness with red and blue hearts that will be posted on a banner in the cafeteria that will read: Today, I Chose Kindness.
