Tampa, Fla. – (November 13, 2018) – It will be an exciting day for students and staff throughout Hillsborough County Public Schools as they welcome speakers from a variety of careers and hobbies during the Great American Teach-In on Thursday, November 15.
In celebration of American Education Week, the Teach-In introduces students to career options, hobbies and activities they may never experience. These presentations reinforce the importance of education for success in any occupation. Last year, Hillsborough County’s graduation rate climbed to 82.9%, an all-time record for our district. More than 11,000 students walked across the graduation stage in May, on their way to college or a career.
Some of the guests showcasing careers during the Teach-In will include: cybersecurity professionals, a retired professional hockey player, USF’s head baseball coach, Busch Gardens zoological operations, firefighters, law enforcement officers, politicians, and many in a range of medical fields. (See the attached list.)
The purpose of this day is to encourage individual workers, businesses, community leaders, sports figures, local personalities, retirees, community volunteers and parents to become involved in education by sharing what they know with a new generation. Each year, Teach-In volunteers spend an hour or more in classrooms inspiring students to focus and look ahead to their future.
