Buccaneers, Florida Dairy Council donate milk coolers along with new shoes to students at Reddick Elementary School

November 28, 2018

Christmas came early for students and teachers at Reddick Elementary School.

Santa told us they made his nice list this year!

The Florida Dairy Council partnered with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to donate new milk coolers for the cafeteria along with 400 pairs of new sneakers for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students.

For some, it was the first pair of new shoes they have owned.

“I really became overwhelmed with the reaction of the students,” said Teresa Moran-Wiebe, Director of Youth Wellness for the Florida Dairy Council. “I definitely got teary-eyed seeing the students get so excited to get a great gift so close to the holidays.”

The donation was made possible through the $10,000 hometown grant from both organizations.

“It was amazing that they gave us brand new sneakers because some of us need new shoes,” said 5th grader Isaiha Loore. “I can’t wait to put them on and go play outside.”

The Florida Dairy Council promoted its “Fuel Up to Play 60” program, which encourages youth to consume low-fat or fat-free milk and milk products, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

It also encourages students to spend at least 60 minutes a day exercising.

“Some of these students never imagined having new Nike shoes,” said Principal of Reddick, J Roth. “Unfortunately, with their family situations it’s not possible. To see those students actually get something that many of their peers have means the world to them.”

Staff measured the size of each student’s feet weeks ago, so they had the right size, but even some teachers didn’t know what it was for.

Members of the Buccaneers joined students and staff in the courtyard following the presentation to play games like hopscotch and football.

“Our teachers are incredible and form a bond with our students that’s why they were so happy to see them get such a generous gift,” said Roth.
