Tampa, Fla. – (May 8, 2019) – The Plant City Career Academy will celebrate the culmination of a year dedicated to preparing graduating students to enter our local workforce at a special Signing Day.
On Thursday, May 9, students in the Career Academy from three Plant City high schools will sign on the dotted line to make their new careers or apprenticeships official. Their new employers will also be in attendance, providing each student with bags filled with items from their company, such as hats and shirts. The students were hired or offered an apprenticeship as a result of the recent Plant City Career Academy Future Fair.
Media is invited to the ceremony at Plant City High School at 11:30 a.m. The school is located at 1 Raider Place, Plant City. Students at Durant High School and Simmons Career Center will also take part in signing day ceremonies.
Everyone has seen signing ceremonies for athletes. This ceremony will celebrate those students who are taking a different path, entering the workforce after graduation.
In its third year, the Plant City Career Academy is offered at three participating Plant City high schools and provides a curriculum connected to workforce development to prepare those students not planning on attending college for employment. New this year, was the introduction of a full-year program to prepare and now connect participants to the opportunities in our community. This curriculum included ten industry videos, financial literacy, resume and interview preparation, a business field trip and other workforce development related assignments and support in the English 4 and English 4 Honors classes. Each school has worked to prepare those in the Career Academy to maximize their opportunity to find a job through the unique Future Fair, an annual job fair event, that provides access to meet the decision makers from area companies.
Thriving businesses looking for new hires in the Plant City area had an opportunity to connect with Career Academy participants at the Future Fair, a career and training fair, on April 25.
