Tampa, Fla. – (August 27, 2019) – Just three weeks into the school year, our schools and local law enforcement have been dealing with a number of made up school threats.
These threats cause unnecessary anxiety among students, parents and our staff. Every threat is taken seriously and is thoroughly investigated, taking away valuable time and resources from our partners at the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and Tampa Police Department and our School Security division.
On Wednesday, August 28, at 11:30 a.m., Superintendent Jeff Eakins and School Board members will be joined by Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan and FBI Special Agent in Charge Michael McPherson to share a new plan to get the word out to students and others in our community to “Think Before You Post.” The event will be held in the School Board Auditorium, located at 901 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa.
The safety of our students and staff is a top priority and we want everyone to understand it’s not a joke to post threats of any kind against our schools and our students. There can be serious, permanent consequences, including arrest.
