All Hillsborough County Public Schools and District Offices
Will Be Closed Tuesday, September 3

Tampa, Fla. – (August 30, 2019) – After being briefed by Hillsborough County Emergency Management, Hillsborough County Public Schools has made the decision to close school on Tuesday, September 3, due to Hurricane Dorian.

The storm continues to strengthen and move in an unpredictable path. Our district made this decision today to allow our families and employees time to plan.

This decision is based on a number of factors:

  • the likelihood of our schools being called upon to serve as shelters, both for people from our area and other Floridians coming from the east coast
  • the potential for dangerous weather conditions and heavy rain in our area Tuesday
  • the likelihood of high winds Tuesday, which would prevent our school buses from operating and impact students traveling to and from school

All sports and afterschool activities will be held as scheduled on Saturday. The status of sports and activities for Sunday and beyond depends on whether schools are needed as shelters and which days school is canceled.

We will continue to work with emergency officials and will provide updates for school on Wednesday as the path of the storm becomes clearer. You can find updates at hillsboroughschools.org/dorian and on our district’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
