Tampa, Fla. – (September 23, 2019) – It is an exciting time for families in the fast-growing area of southeastern Hillsborough County. A brand new high school is under construction and future students and families can meet their new principal and recommend a name and mascot for their new school.
Two community meetings are scheduled over the next two weeks:
- Wednesday, September 25, 6 p.m., East Bay High School Auditorium, 7710 Old Big Bend Rd., Gibsonton
- Thursday, October 3, 6 p.m., Lennard High School Cafeteria, 2342 E. Shell Point Rd., Ruskin
Students and families can meet Principal Dave Brown, who was recently appointed to lead the new high school. They can also submit recommendations for the name and mascot of the school and can meet the architect designing this beautiful new state of the art campus.
This will be the first new high school to open in more than ten years in our district. This school will provide relief to high schools in the area that are already at or near capacity. Construction is booming in South Hillsborough County with thousands of students expected to be entering our schools over the next 3-5 years. Currently, nearby Lennard High School has an enrollment of more than 3,300 and is at 132% of capacity. More than 450 students are projected to move into Lennard’s current school boundaries in the next few years.
Anyone who cannot attend the community meetings is encouraged to submit names for consideration for the new school. All recommendations must be submitted by Friday, October 4, and can be sent to school.name@sdhc.k12.fl.us
