Tampa, Fl. (November 20, 2020) – Books have the power to inspire children, while broadening horizons and opening a new world of learning. Especially during the pandemic, it is more important than ever to provide students with engaging storybooks while a trip to the library may not be possible.

This is why Hillsborough County Public Schools is holding an Early Childhood Literacy Fair on Saturday, November 21 from 9:00 am-11:30 am. Families who participate in this drive-through event will pick up free books to add to their home libraries.

The Early Childhood Literacy Fair was spearheaded by Dr. Stacy Hahn, School Board Member for District 2. Literacy has been a top priority for Dr. Hahn, who has launched Storytime Online, where she and other local leaders read books to children to promote the power of reading while creating a lasting love of literacy.

“This event places magical storybooks into the hands of our younger students with the goal of igniting a love of reading. Having their very own small home library is important as they continue on the path to becoming great readers. I believe one book can open a whole new world for a young child, and I am excited to be a part of the experience,” said Board Member Dr. Stacy Hahn.

““This event is an exemplar on how servant leaders extend our classrooms into our communities by providing print rich materials within our homes to strengthen literacy. Without a doubt, literacy is the foundation of learning and is one of the most important factors that leads to greater self-reliance and increases opportunities for our students to compete as civic leaders. Dr. Hahn continues to be a champion for our children with a focus on early childhood literacy. I want to thank Dr. Hahn for her willingness to support literacy within Hillsborough County. In addition, I am grateful for all the volunteers and partners who have made this event a reality, reinforcing Dr. Hahn's vision for a brighter tomorrow,”said Superintendent Addison Davis.
