Final Day: Bell Schedule Simulator

Tampa, Fla. – (August 24, 2017) – Hillsborough County Public Schools has already received more than 1,100 responses from parents, teachers and members of the community using the Bell Schedule Simulator.

Friday is the final day to use the simulator to try out different possible bell times for the 2018–2019 school year. Ideas gathered from the public will be used to create a survey in early September that will guide the School Board as it determines school start and end times for the next school year. 

The public can try out their own bell time scenarios and submit suggestions online through August 25 at:

Hillsborough County Public Schools will continue to gather input and encourages parents, students, employees and the community to provide their solutions and ideas.

The district must make changes to the bell schedule for a number of reasons. Many students are unavoidably late to school, costing them valuable instructional time, because the current arrival and dismissal schedule does not allow buses enough time to run their routes. There is also a financial concern because the district spends more than $2 million to hire additional drivers to meet the current school schedule.

Parents will receive a survey via email in early September and four public meetings will give families more chances to offer feedback and ask questions of district staff and try out the simulation if they have not done so already. See below for the schedule of meetings.

Chamberlain High School 9/5/2017 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Strawberry Crest High School 9/7/2017 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Jefferson High School 9/14/2017 6:00-7:30 p.m.
Riverview High School 9/19/2017 6:00-7:30 p.m.

The School Board will vote on a final bell schedule on October 17 and, if approved, will give families nearly a year to make needed adjustments to their schedules.
