Lifelong learners and leaders

Shields Middle creates life-long learners and leaders from the Ruskin and Wimauma areas. We are dedicated to learning, proudly offering students Scholar Quest options leading to high school credit in Computer Science, Gaming and Coding, Agriscience, four levels of Spanish Language, plus accelerated math and science courses—and more high school level opportunities through on-campus virtual learning. You’ll discover leadership and community service, plus incentives for good grades and positive behavior. Join a range of sports teams or two dozen clubs, including a writing club that sends letters to servicemembers. Through Electives, students sample a variety of courses—Technology, Art and a new course: "Latinos in Action.” Our Sixth Grade Structure helps students from diverse backgrounds feel at home in their new learning environment. Shields boasts one of the largest AVID college readiness programs in our district. Our Shields Sailfish make a lifelong pledge: "I am a Winner, I am Successful and I am heading for GREATNESS!”
