Tuition-Free Application-Only Program • Launching with Sixth Grade in Fall 2020

South Tampa Academy at Monroe Middle Magnet is an exciting new middle school option aiming to develop active learners and internationally minded students. Launching with Sixth Grade in the Fall of 2020, students will be guided by the International Baccalaureate IB World School Philosophy. This rigorous academic program empowers students to pursue lives of purpose and meaning, while striving to be open-minded, principled thinkers. Students throughout South Tampa Academy can also pursue unique Electives like our Robotics, Computer Modeling & Simulation Program, the first of its kind in Hillsborough Schools. Our rigorous Scholar Quest high school credit courses challenge our students in a range of subjects. Classmates connect through our many sports teams and clubs, such as LEGO Mindstorms, EV3 Robotics and STEM Guitar Building. Our Sixth Grade Structure creates a supportive transition into middle school, starting with Fifth Grade STEAM Day, where students experience a day in the life of a sixth grader and feel at home in their new learning environment.

To apply to South Tampa Academy, families must fill out a School Choice Application. Applicants will be selected by random drawing based on available space in this new program. The IB program is planned to expand to add 7th Grade in 2021-22 and 8th Grade in 2022-23.

Sixth Grade Structure

Our sixth grade structure is designed to group students who are new to middle school together for their first year as they become comfortable with the dynamics of their new school.

Every middle school student's education includes Social Emotional Learning or "SEL." Our SEL curriculum builds character and resilience, focusing on self-management, relationship skills and responsible decision-making.

Nature's Classroom

All 6th grade students join in a multi-day field research study along the Hillsborough River in our 365-acre outdoor educational preserve. Using scientific techniques, students discover our area's vital plant and animal life.
